Cloud Amulet
Cloud Amulet
Hand made clay and recycled polystyrene inner cloud in a glass case made from second hand picture frames and book cloth.
One of the great Gaelic ancestors, the Cailleach was the goddess of the cold and winds, determining the winter’s length and harshness. Both divine hag and creator deity, sometimes known as ‘the veiled one’, she shaped much of the known landscape in Scotland, Ireland, and the Isle of Man. Her tools of creation and destruction included her hammer, with which she controlled storms and thunder clouds. The Cailleach was neither fully good or fully evil, her intentions varied from tale to tale. She was a natural and destructive force. Both ageless and immortal, as winter gave way to spring, she would take a drought that returned her to her youth.
An Amulet such as this is an object, either natural or man-made, believed to be endowed with special powers to protect or bring good fortune. Amulets are carried on the person or kept in the place that is the desired sphere of influence—e.g. on a windowsill or near the door. Keep this one close by to honour the Cailleach and weather the storms.
