As they grow bigger, like tree rings, seashells have seasonal growth lines that are sometimes visible from the outside. They hold a treasure trove of detailed information about the changing ocean, when volcanoes erupted or hurricanes struck.
These lines can sometimes form into natural phenomena resembling patterns of light and shadow that might seem familiar, in the same way we see a face in the Moon. Some spiritualists believe many shells form on a centre spiral, and actually grow outward with the passing of a full moon tide.
